Family Stuff

Life goes in a big circle. I am now going through some of the same things I did as a child. I realized this last week when Kialee, my oldest granddaughter, announced, “I’m losing my teeth.” I hugged her and said, “So am I honey.” She was referring to a loose tooth that was about to fall out, and I was referring to the fact that I couldn’t find mine. They are sitting in a glass somewhere in the house. Eventually I’ll find them, but for now it’s Jello and Oatmeal time.

Kialee started school a few days ago and was all excited because she rode the bus. In just a few years I will have to ride the bus again. I was born bald, and I am going bald again. I wore a diaper as a child.… You get the picture. I’m telling you, it’s a circle.

The tooth thing brought back many memories. Taryn, my youngest daughter, was very aggressive about tooth pulling. One day she tied a twenty pound test fishing line around her tooth. She tied the other end of the line to a door knob. I walked in just as she violently slammed the door to jerk out her tooth. Her head snapped forward, the line hummed as it stretched to its limit, and the tooth stayed put. I yelled, “What are you doing?” She said, “I’m pulling my tooth!” I said, “Come here; let me see if it’s loose!” She said, “I can’t come there, I’m tied to the door.” Once again, she flung the door shut, and once again, it almost yanked her off her feet, and once again, the tooth held fast. “Quit that,” I said, “you’re going to hurt yourself.” “Leave me alone,” she snapped, “I need money!”

Speaking of money, inflation is coming back. I was informed by my granddaughter that the tooth fairy leaves $10 for a tooth. Who took the fair out of fairy? At that rate, I’ve got to find that glass with my teeth in it. It’s worth about two hundred and eighty dollars.
